March 26-28 we went with Chris and a group from his school for their end of year outing to Hua Hin, a beach area south west of Bangkok". Quite an experience travelling 9 hours with 130 teen girls on 3 buses. But the girls were really well mannered and the travelling was very interesting. The King of Thailand has a summer home at Hua Hin and we did a quick tour of it. The beach is very lovely and we got to swim in the ocean for a bit.
In our last week we went to Chiang Mai with Chris, Yo, and Chama. Chiang Mai is a tourist destination in the mountainous north of Thailand. It is about a 6 or 7 hour trip from Phitsanulok and we went there by bus and returned by train, both very interesting experiences. We stayed at a hotel in the old city which is inside a moat. We went up a mountain to the wat one day and spent most of the rest of our time just wandering around through the city watching the tourists. There were a lot of unique specimens. Jo-Anne and Yo went to a Thai cooking class and learned some good cooking techniques. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures in the city so don't have any to show
On our last day in Thailand we all went with friend Ed and his daughter Eva to a waterfalls in the mountains about 1.5 hours drive east of Phitsanulok. The children had fun swimming, we had a superb lunch of chicken, rice, salad from a vendor right beside the little picnic shelter we used. And only in Thailand do the road construction trucks fill their water tanks, people wash their cars, and the kids swim all in the same swimming hole.

On our way back that afternoon we stopped at a Chinese temple just outside of Phitsanulok. The decor of the temple was amazing and the view of the valley to the east of the temple was gorgeous. The day was very full and satisfying.
